The match started off with Taichi automatically bringing the fight to the man who took away the NEVER Openweight Championship from him, Tomohiro Ishii.

Taichi was successful in the early goings of the contest, besting Ishii with violent strikes and kicks. However, Taichi's unexpected toughness didn’t derail Ishii for long, as the NEVER Openweight Champion countered with a powerslam to change the course of the bout.

The match-up shifted to a back-and-forth affair, with Ishii managing to drop Taichi after a stiff strike exchange. Ishii remained in control for a bit and even nailed a sliding lariat for a nearfall; however, Taichi got back into the match-up with a nice buzzsaw kick.

A short time later, both men would get into another strike exchange that the NEVER Openweight Champion would win, and then Ishii nearly took Taichi’s head off with another lariat that got him a nearfall. In the end though, Taichi managed to recover and connect with a superkick. He then hit Black Mephisto, which got him a three count.

Taichi’s final G1 Climax tournament score is 4-5 (8 points) and Tomohiro Ishii’s finalized record in the 2019 competition is 4-5 (8 points).
