Taka Michinokou will miss Sunday’s Best of the Super Juniors event due to suffering a leg injury in his match-up against Shingo Takagi, according to New Japan Pro Wrestling themselves. The company has released a statement through their website regarding Michinoku’s status and what will happen with his opponent, Dragon Lee:

Due to an injury to his right leg, TAKA Michinoku has been ruled to be unable to compete in Sunday’s match in Chiba’s Makuhari tournament.

As a result, he will forfeit his match with Dragon Lee. The eighth match of the event will be cancelled and Dragon Lee will earn two points instead.

Night 10 of the Best of the Super Juniors will now only consist of 9 matches. Dragon Lee will also not participate.

*Dragon Lee’s pre-match autograph session will take place as planned

We apologize to the fans who were looking forward to seeing their match and we wish TAKA a speedy recovery.

Michinoku remains last in the current standing of the annual competition. With two points added, Dragon Lee ties with Shingo Takagi and Taiji Ishimori for six points in Block A. In Block B, Will Ospreay, El Phantasmo, and Ryusuke Taguchi all currently lead with six points in the current standings.

The finals of the tournament is set to take place on June 5th, with the overall winner getting a title shot against current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Dragon Lee at Dominion on June 9th.
