Thekla reflects on her ROH Women’s World title match.
The beginning of 2025 was a wild one for Athena. The “Fallen Goddess” brought her talents to STARDOM and New Japan Pro-Wrestling and all seemed to be going well at STARDOM New Year Dream. But a champion always has a target on his/her back, and that was no different for Athena, who was challenged to a match by her own tag team partner. Athena rejected the challenge, but Thekla made sure the champion didn’t leave Japan without defending her belt.
So Thekla helped Athena lose the four-way international match at the joint New Japan/AEW pay-per-view, Wrestle Dynasty. The Forever Champion was heated, but Thekla got what she wanted - a title match. These two finally clashed for the world title at New Years Stars and The Hate member gave it everything she had.
She pulled out all of the stops to make sure a new champion was crowned, but Athena just couldn’t be stopped on January 13, 2025. Athena had positive things to say about her challenger on Bodyslam.net and even offered her a rematch in the US. Thekla reflected on their title match and she also spoke positively about the ROH Women’s World Champion.
"I have to say despite the loss this has been a brilliant year so far. I really can’t complain, it’s very busy. I don’t have time to recall anything but it’s really good and how I like it. The exhibition was phenomenal, so many people from all over the world came. Athena is very tough but being able to compete for a Ring of Honor championship with her is massive and from now it’s just going to go up."
Will these two fight again? It doesn’t seem like anytime soon. But given the fact that Athena offered a rematch in the United States, it would be shocking if that opportunity never happened in the future. As of now, there aren't any clear challengers for Athena, though we’re still months away from the next ROH pay-per-view.
As for Thekla, she hasn’t had a match since New Years Stars, but she does plan on pushing herself harder in 2025, “I’m going to continue what I’m doing right now, but just ten times harder, ten times more successful. I’m definitely going to travel the world this year and I think my name is going to be in a lot of peoples mouths."
