For the first time ever, the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion collided with KENTA.
The match-up began as a feeling out process between both competitors as kicks were exchanged, finishers were attempted, and a strike fest occurred. A good portion of the contest was a back-and-forth showcase for both men, with KENTA’s striking ability outmatching Ospreay’s quickness.
The match-up was built on KENTA working on Ospreay’s neck for his submission finisher or Go To Sleep. The former WWE superstar would eventually lock in Game Over, but the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion successfully made the ropes.
After connecting with a serious of knee strikes that resulted in a near fall, KENTA attempted a Go To Sleep on the ‘Aerial Assassin’, but Ospreay would slyly maneuver his way out of it and nail the Os Cutter after a head kick.
Will Ospreay would eventually nail the Storm breaker for a three count. The IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion’s G1 Climax score is 3-5 (8 points), whereas KENTA’s record has fallen to 4-4 (8 points).
