Ever since Jon Moxley revealed his frustration with WWE creative backstage, it appears that more stars are speaking out about the company’s problems.
Despite being with the WWE for nearly ten years, Shawn Spears (Tye Dillinger) was never anything more than a glorified jobber in the company; The former superstar finally had enough of his placement within the promotion and requested his release, which was granted a few days later. Now, Spears is an official member of the All Elite Wrestling roster, with his signing confirmed yesterday.
Spears spoke with Chris Van Vliet about his ex-employer and detailed his last meeting with Vince McMahon, noting that credibility is the biggest difference between AEW and WWE:
“Credibility. One of the last conversations I had with Vince, I went into his office…I needed to say what I needed to say. The biggest difference between both companies is credibility. Talent needs credibility. They don’t necessarily need pushes…but talent does need credibility.”
The AEW star went deeper into his issues with WWE, and revealed that he told Vince McMahon that he believed he was insulting the intelligence of the audience:
“If you’re watching the product and two guys come out and you’re already able to tell the finish of the match based on entrances alone, that’s a problem. Because now we’re giving an audience the opportunity to change the channel, we’re giving them the opportunity to [text] on their phone…they don’t care. They’re not invested. And that’s what I said to the chairman. I said, ‘with all due respect, I think we’re insulting their intelligence.’ He just kinda looked at me and said, ‘oh sh*t,’ But I still stand by that sentiment today.”
