It was touted as the biggest match in the history of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and it really did live up to expectations.
After seven years of chasing the IWGP Heaveyweight Championship, Tetsuya Naito defeated arguably the greatest wrestler in the world in Kazuchika Okada to fulfill his destiny. This also makes Naito the first man to hold both the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships at the same time.
The bout ran almost 40 minutes, but it never dragged. Both men started slow and felt each other out, but it wasn't long before Okada began to target the knee that Naito damaged during his match with Jay White last night. Things looked bleak for the LIJ leader, but he just wouldn't stay down - not even after a series of Rainmakers.
In the end, Tetsuya was able to weather the storm and hit a Stardust Press followed by one final Destino to pin his opponent and shut his doubters up for good.
A great moment, cut short by KENTA interrupting the celebration and putting Naito down with a GTS. It looks like we have our next challenger for the IWGP Championship(s).
