Cheick Kongo won’t be leaving Bellator MMA anytime soon.
MMA Junkie has confirmed that the heavyweight has signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion, though the exact details of his contract remain disclosed.
Kongo made his debut in MMA professionally back in 2001 and even had a solid stint with the UFC. The 44-year-old never won any championships in the company; however, Kongo did get big victories over Mirko Cro Cop (via unanimous decision at UFC 75), Pat Barry (via knockout at UFC on Versus 4), and Matt Mitrione (via unanimous decision at UFC 137).
His final fight was against Roy Nelson at UFC 159 and even though he lost the bout due to a devastating knockout, Kongo still had a solid record of 18 wins and 8 losses. Following his departure from the UFC, the Paris native transitioned over to Bellator MMA later that year and Kongo has been one of the top heavyweights in the division since joining.
While Kongo has suffered defeat at the hands of Vitaly Minakov (via unanimous decision at Bellator 115) and Muhammed Lawal (via split decision at Bellator 134), the veteran has amassed twelve wins within the company. His current professional record stands at 30 wins, 10 losses, and 2 no contests.
