Former UFC star Justin Willis is making his way to Professional Fighters League in season three. It’s been confirmed by MMA Junkie that the heavyweight will be competing to claim the $1 million prize in the upcoming season.

Willis made his way into the UFC back in 2017 by defeating James Mulheron at UFC Glasgow. The 32-year-old would continue winning in his next three fights, besting Allen Crowder, Chase Sherman, and Mark Hunt. Curtis Blaydes would hand Willis his first loss within the UFC.

To the surprise of many, Willis was released from the promotion in 2019 and the UFC President explained on TSN why the California native was let go (Transcript courtesy of Bloody Elbow):

“There’s a ton of guys and girls that fight here. We have like 600 people under roster,” White told TSN. “There’s always times when we release people and they question, ‘Well, why, why were these people released?’ I’m looking for people that can break into the top five or possibly become world champions.”

Of course, Willis is looking to prove Dana White wrong by entering season three of PFL. There’s no word on when he’s set to make his debut as the third season of the PFL isn’t expected to begin until mid-2020.
