Jon Lineker will be fighting with ONE Championship for the foreseeable future.
In 2019, after fighting in the UFC for over five years, John Lineker was released from the promotion. Prior to his departure, the Brazilian was scheduled to fight Rob Font at UFC on ESPN+ 12; however, Lineker pulled out for the fourth time in his UFC career, which was deemed unprofessional by Dana White himself.
Since then, Lineker made the transition over to ONE Championship and was successful in his match-up against Muin Gafurov at ONE Championship: Dawn Of Valor back in October. The MMA veteran revealed during a recent interview with Ag Fight that he has a six-fight contract with the Asian promotion (Transcript courtesy of Bloody Elbow):
“I think about it all the time (my financial future). Time goes on, we get old, injuries come up. I’ve been thinking about that everyday. Raising some money, making investments, so that when I stop, my kids are all set. I hope we can have enough to remain retired. I signed a six-fight contract with ONE, so there’s still some good money to be made. I want to save that money, make investments, so I can have a nice retirement in the future.”
At the moment, Lineker doesn’t have any opponents planned for the future due to ONE Championship not being in business because of the coronavirus pandemic. Hopefully the talented fighter succeeds in his venture with ONE Championship as Lineker has proven to be a valuable commodity against names such as Michael McDonald, Francisco Rivera, and T.J. Dillashaw.
