Henry Cejudo is no longer the UFC Bantamweight Champion.
At UFC 249, the 33-year-old shocked the MMA community by announcing his retirement after beating Dominick Cruz for the 135-pound belt. It was only a matter of time before Cejudo would be stripped of the prestigious title, and the former Bantamweight Champion released a statement thanking the UFC:
According to Dana White himself, Petr Yan will get a crack at the championship; however, his opponent has yet to be determined:
“It’s Petr Yan and somebody,” said, White. “We’ll get that figured out, too. We’ll make a title fight next week for the vacant title and probably do that fight as soon as possible.”
Cejudo hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to the octagon; however, the former two-division champion makes it clear that it would have to be a big money fight to get him to lace up the gloves again.
Cejudo made his debut in the UFC back in 2015 and though the bantamweight had a solid showing in the early goings of his career, Cejudo didn’t really make noise until his stunning win over Demetrius Johnson for the UFC Flyweight Championship at UFC 227.
The California native would follow that win up by beating Marlon Moraes to capture the UFC Bantamweight Championship at UFC 238. Cejudo successfully defended both belts once, and managed to end his career with a record of 16 wins and 2 losses.
