In a surprising move, Welterweight Champion Ross Houston is no longer with Cage Warriors. The fighter also vacated the championship belt.
MMA Fighting was the first to confirm the news with Houston’s management company, Black Panter Sports. The split between the two sides was said to be amicable; however, Houston reportedly signed a non-disclosure agreement, so the fighter will be unable to speak about why he was released from the promotion.
Prior to his exit, the Scotland native was on a hot streak within the promotion, as Houston remains undefeated in the octagon. The welterweight defeated Stefano Paterno at Cage Warriors 98 to win the CW Welterweight title. He successfully defended the belt against Nicolas Dalby at Cage Warriors 106.
Houston is currently negotiating with three companies and a possible fight in April. Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan released a statement to MMA Fighting regarding his departure from the promotion:
“Ross Houston & Cage Warriors have decided to part ways by mutual agreement. Ross Houston has thanked Cage Warriors for the work Cage Warriors has done in getting his career to this stage. Ross is now a free agent”.
Houston’s professional record is 8 wins, no losses, and 1 no contest.
