Wade Barrett is back in NXT.
According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, the original leader of Nexus will make his return to the commentary team for the black-and-gold brand tonight. The report states that Barrett has not signed a full-time deal with the promotion and is just back for a one-off appearance.
Before NXT became the big developmental brand that’s running today, the former Intercontinental Champion was on the first season of the reality-based type program. That season also had Daniel Bryan, Heath Slater, David Otunga, and Ryback (who was named Skip Sheffield at the time).
Barrett went on to win the first season and instantly made an impact due to the unforgettable debut of Nexus. The 40-year-old would eventually leave the company on his own terms in 2016 and has since appeared in World of Sport Wrestling, Lucha Underground, and most recently, NWA.
Barrett did reveal in an interview with Wrestling Inc Daily podcast that he turned down an opportunity to make his return to the company at WrestleMania. This year marks the 10th Anniversary of Nexus and the former WWE Intercontinental Champion stated that he didn’t like the offer that was presented. Barrett’s return to NXT is definitely be interesting one. Could we see a surprise angle with the former WWE superstar tonight?
