Jay White is going to be out for a good while.
The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion just can’t seem to catch a break. White was on the verge of finally elevating himself into the main event scene. He beat the current AEW World Champion at Full Gear and Wrestle Dream, and White competed in the four way match at World’s End.
He was fresh off a huge win over Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli and on his way into the 2025 Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Then his match against Kevin Knight happened. Even though the 32-year-old beat Knight, he sustained a hand injury. But according to Fightful Select, the injury is actually way worse than first reported.
“Jay White has been out of action for the last several months with a hand injury that he sustained in a match against Kevin Knight. However, those that we speak to haven’t heard that he’s close to a return, in fact, they’ve heard the opposite.
In fact, those that we’ve spoken to claim that Jay White had also been dealing with a shoulder injury. Sources in the company have said that White had been weighing whether or not to get shoulder surgery, though we haven’t heard if that decision was made. If so, it’s possible he’d miss the rest of the year.”
Tony Khan would end up confirming that White will be out for a long period of time.
“Jay White is one of the best wrestlers in the world and got injured along the way. He is out, and unfortunately, is going to be out for a long time,” said Khan on Robbie Fox on My Mom’s Basement.
As reported, White will likely be out for the remainder of the year. This isn’t his first injury in AEW as he suffered a foot injury in March 2023. Here’s hoping that Jay can recover and have a long and healthy AEW run where he’s featured as one of the company’s top acts. White was finally getting his due as a singles star and though there’s no reports that there were any plans to put a belt on him, AEW did have some big plans for the Bullet Club leader prior to his injury.
White has been completely quiet since being forced out of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Hopefully in the coming months, we’ll have a better understanding on what he plans to do about his latest injury.
