NXT TakeOver: War Games was a lot of fun but the War Games main event was easily the highlight. The match made its last appearance seventeen years ago in a WCW ring and while NXT made some changes to the format, it was still recognisable as War Games. Well, with the kinks no doubt all worked out, Triple H has confirmed that we haven't seen the last of this particular match type!
According to The Game, WWE views the concept as a franchise and that probably means we can expect to see a War Games match on the main roster at some point in the near future as well.
"I think we’ve seen a franchise built here tonight. I think WarGames will be back. I think when the time is right we’ve got a lot of WarGames excitement yet to come. What I’m really proud of with the guys that were in that ring tonight is they took something from the past, they didn’t stand on anybody else’s shoulders, they didn’t stand on anybody else’s roof, they made it theirs. They brought it into something for today, they brought it into something new, they made it now, they made it the future."
War Games becoming a staple of NXT would be no bad thing, especially as it gives wrestling fans once more reason to tune into an extra hour of WWE programming each week. For now, we'll have to wait and see but as the company has announced that Survivor Series weekend will take place in Los Angeles next year, we can probably expect the match to once again take place then.
