On Saturday, it was revealed that the next NXT UK
TakeOver event will be held in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday, August 31st.
It didn't take wrestling fans long to realise that that's the same day as All Elite Wrestling's second PPV,
All Out, so is WWE just being petty? Well, due to the time difference, the shows won't actually be airing head to head and Triple H has now explained why they've made the announcement when they did and claims that it was always planned for this date.
"I will just say this to everybody in here, contrary to I’m sure some of the buzz, the date of August 31 is a date we’ve had for a long time. That building has been booked with us in Cardiff, geez, long before WrestleMania 35 I think. We just hadn’t announced because it wasn’t the right time, and you don’t want to announce something for a brand 6 months out or whatever, at least I don’t the way I see it. Tonight was the right night to do it, it had nothing to do with anybody else, to be honest. We will take place live in primetime in the UK and be on in the afternoon here in the US, so it is what it is."
Honestly, this does seem like very unfortunate timing and it's hard to see what WWE would gain from this. AEW has a large following in the UK, so they might be hoping that TakeOver will be enough wrestling for one day but given what a small fanbase that brand has, that seems unlikely.
