This past week, Impact Wrestling made a surprising one-on-one match between former Impact World Heavyweight Champion Eli Drake and former Knockouts Champion Tessa Blanchard at United We Stand.
While intergender wrestling is more common on the indie scene and Lucha Underground, this type of wrestling is rarely seen on Impact. Many fans voiced their concern about the planned match-up between the two athletes, and it appears that Drake agrees with them.
The former Impact World Heavyweight champion replied to a Tweet from a fan who didn’t like the match announcement, which states that intergender wrestling screams, “hey this is fake”. Drake replied agreeing with the fan and while he puts over Blanchard as top notch talent, he’s refusing to wrestle the former Knockouts Champion in a one-on-one bout.
At the moment, there’s no word on whether this is a work or not. We’ll find out within the next couple of weeks if the match between Drake and Blanchard sticks for United We Stand. Neither Impact nor Tessa have responded to the tweet yet.
