Is AJ Styles coming back to TNA?
Based on the recent teaser, the former TNA World Heavyweight Champion will grace his former home at Slammiversary.
Now this isn’t particularly a surprise since Carlos Silva addressed the rumors during his Fightul interview and doubled down on the notion that the 48-year-old would be making an appearance at the company’s big show.
“It’s gonna be a phenomenal night,” Silva said. “That is exactly what I would tell you. I love the word phenomenal and I’ve done a bunch of phenomenal things over the years and Slammiversary’s definitely gonna be phenomenal.”
“Look, we’re all in the sports and entertainment space and we want to continue to build the excitement. I think Slammiversary is definitely going to be our biggest show ever. Some little pieces of that are all coming together to help make it the biggest night for sure.”
It isn’t exactly clear what Styles will be doing at Slammiversary, but the current WWE star has stated in the past that he’s willing to do one off match in TNA again if WWE allows it. It could be possible that Styles is simply talking at the big pay-per-view, but we’ll just have to wait and see on July 20th!
AJ Styles hasn’t wrestled in TNA since 2013. His final match was against Magnus (aka Nick Aldis) for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. The TNA original lost that match and went out onto the independent scene.
AJ was with TNA for 12 years at that point. The only reason he left is due to the company asking him to accept a 60% pay decrease in his salary. Would AJ still be in TNA if the promotion didn’t try and reduce his pay? We’ll never know, but AJ leaving TNA did wonders for his career overall.
During his 12 year stint, AJ had plenty of classics against Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, or mostly anyone in that locker room during that time. AJ is a former TNA World Heavyweight Champion, X-Division Champion, and TNA World Tag Team Champion.
What will AJ do this Sunday at Slammiversary?
We’ll just have to tune in and find out! Slammiversary is a stacked show that’s being headlined with a triple threat match between Trick Williams, Mike Santana, and Joe Hendry. There’s also a title vs. title match between Masha Slamovich and Jacy Jayne. On paper, this seems to be an exciting show. Hopefully, TNA has something really cool in mind.
