Did you know that Mickie James and Gail Kim were supposed to be a tag team?
The former multi-time Knockouts Champion has been retired full-time since 2018, though Kim has made sporadic in-ring appearances ever since. One of those few appearances was supposed to be a tag team run with Mickie James in 2024. The TNA Hall of Famer herself talks about teaming with the former Knockouts Champion and why those plans never came to light.
“It was a potential plan that did fall through. Of course, it would have been so exciting. I got super excited at the idea, but I do believe that everything happens for a reason. Mickie’s road went another way, and so it just wasn’t meant to be for that moment. That’s all," Kim told Ella Jay of A Wrestling Gal.
So does that rule out a return for Gail Kim? Not quite. While the former Knockouts Champion has no plans to make an in-ring return anytime soon, she isn’t crossing out any plans for the future.
"With that kind of situation, you say never say never. But I feel like I have so much to give behind the scenes, it’s very difficult…listen, if I’m ever gonna get back in the ring, I have to give a hundred million percent because I care that much about what the fans see, my legacy, all that. So it would be a hard decision, for sure. I’m not getting any younger," Kim said.
Gail Kim’s last official match was on the Impact 1000 special where she teamed with Awesome Kong, Jordynne Grace, Mickie James, and Trinity in a massive ten-woman tag team match. The babyface team beat Angelina Love, Deonna Purrazzo, SHAWntourage (Gisele Shaw & Savannah Evans) & Tasha Steelz.
As far as Mickie James goes, her time in TNA seems to be over. At least for now. Her final match was at Bound For Glory 2023 where she dropped the Knockouts title to Trinity. Mickie James has had three matches on the independent scene since then. She did recently make an appearance at WWE’s Bad Blood pay-per-view, and Nick Aldis hinted that his wife will be seen on WWE television again during his interview with Chris Van Vliet.
“At this particular moment … no comment. I can’t say too much, but [Mickie showing up at Bad Blood] was very much a ‘hey, we’d love to see you again, we’d love to do more.'”
Hopefully, we’ll be able to see more from both Gail Kim and Mickie James in the future.
