GFW Has Announced That Alberto El Patron Has Been Stripped Of The World Championship

The bad news keeps on coming for former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio as GFW has officially announced today that he's been stripped of their world championship following his recent suspension from the company.

Last month, Alberto El Patron was suspended from GFW following reports of an incident with Paige at an airport. While they both later claimed that he wasn't the one at fault, the company has stuck to their guns by not lifting the wrestler's suspension and it now appears as if the company is wiping their hands with the former WWE Superstar for good.

Here's a statement in regards to El Patron's future - or lack thereof - with GFW moving forward.

GFW has concluded its internal consideration of the events surrounding the suspension of Alberto El Patron. While it is apparent that initial reports unfairly characterized El Patron’s involvement in the incident in the Orlando airport, we are nonetheless disappointed with the manor in which he dealt with this situation; we expect more decorum from all on the GFW roster, especially the World Champion.

We have communicated with El Patron our decision to strip him of his championship title. No decision has been taken as to the date on which he will be reinstated to the roster, the conditions of which are a private matter between the company and El Patron.

It's hard not to wonder if there's more to all this than meets the eye but GFW clearly decided that El Patron is a headache they neither need nor want. The fact he hasn't been fired could point to this somehow playing into a storyline somewhere down the line but it wouldn't be at all surprising to see him now return to the independent circuit for a while.

One thing we can safely say, though, is that he probably won't be returning to WWE
 either!
