Could we see a surprise return of several former WWE stars at Slammiversary?
On Tuesday, the promotion finally announced their annual summer pay-per-view for Saturday, July 18th; however, the big news comes from the promo package that addressed the recent WWE firings and showcased Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson, Mike and Maria Kanellis, Eric Young, EC3, and Drake Maverick.
Based off the latest episode of NXT, I think it’s clear that Drake Maverick won’t be returning to Impact Wrestling anytime soon; however, the other names do remain on the free agent list for the time being.
Young is one of the TNA originals who started with the promotion back in 2003 and managed to capture the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, TNA Television Championship, and TNA World Tag Team titles throughout his ten plus years with the company.
EC3 made his name under the TNA banner despite being a WWE alumni. The former WWE superstar got a chance to prove that he was a main event star during his five-year stint with the company, and the 37-year-old won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship on two occasions.
Despite a very short stint in TNA/Impact Wrestling, Mike Kanellis managed to win the X-Division Championship. Maria also got a chance to shine within the company as the former WWE superstar managed to win the TNA Knockouts title. Gallows and Anderson only had one match under the Impact banner, with the duo’s main stay being in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Thus far, no matches have been confirmed for Slammiversary; however, the pay-per-view may turn out to be a newsworthy event on July 18th. We’ll keep you updated as the card grows for the big summer show.
