On April 3, Impact Wrestling will hold their first-ever TNA: There’s No Place Like Home event that will feature past stars such as Chris Harris, Amazing Red, Shark Boy, and Chris Sabin making a one-night return to the promotion.
While no matches have been confirmed for the special pay-per-view, a King of the Mountain match was announced for the show. The rules for the bout are simple (well, kind of): If a competitor is pinned or submitted, he goes into the penalty box for two minutes. The competitor who scores the pinfall or submission is then eligible to hang the title. The man who hangs the title is declared the winner of the match.
Thus far, there’s been twelve KOTM matches, with the first ever contest taking place on June 2, 2004. The bout featured Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles, Raven, Ron Killings (WWE’s R-Truth), and Chris Harris fighting for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
This 29-minute reverse ladder match set the standard for future King of the Mountain matches and forever cemented itself within the history of TNA/Impact Wrestling. Go back in time and check out the first-ever King of the Mountain match below:
