Could Leon Slater be the next X-Division Champion?
The 20-year-old has only been in the business for five years and has made a splash already. Slater has worked in Rev Pro Wrestling, DEFY Wrestling, and PROGRESS, though he’s currently a TNA mainstay. He made his TNA debut in 2024 in an X-Division six-way match; though he didn’t win, Slater impressed officials to the point where he continued wrestling for the promotion in 2024.
What really opened fans eyes to Slater was his lone X-Division title shot against Mike Bailey. It reminded audiences of the greatness and athleticism that the X-Division represents, something that Slater grew up with when he first started watching the promotion during the early 2000s.
Slater is scheduled to challenge for the X-Division title again at Rebellion in the company’s signature match, Ultimate X, with Matt Cardona, El Hijo del Vikingo, and Moose (the current X-Division Champion) in the match as well. Being apart of the company’s signature match is very important to Slater. However, winning the prestigious belt is as well. Slater told Ash Rose in a new interview that he’s had his eyes on the X-Division title since he was a kid.
"I'm extremely excited. Not only because it's my first Ultimate X match that's going to take place at Rebellion, but it's my second chance at the X Division title, which is something ever since I got to TNA, even before I got to TNA, that I've had my eye on since I was a child, right? So, this is my second chance not only to win it, but to put my name in the history books and be the youngest ever X Division champion in TNA history. So I'm very excited for Rebellion. I'm very excited for April 27th because I truly believe that this is my time to put my name in the books."
Will Slater make history by becoming the youngest X-Division Champion?
Chris Sabin, Trevor Lee, and Amazing Red all tie for the youngest X-Division Champion as they won it at the age of 21. In terms of the general roster, that honor goes to Rosita (current WWE star Zelina Vega), who won the Knockouts Tag Team titles with Rosita at the age of 20. We’ll find out at Rebellion if Slater can make history for the men’s side.
