Leon Slater will get another shot at the X-Division title.
At Against All Odds, Slater pulled off a massive upset for his team as he pinned Moose in an eight-man tag team match. This past Thursday, Santino Marella confirmed that the 20-year-old has earned the right to challenge the X-Division Champion at the upcoming Slammiversary pay-per-view.
Slater has been making waves in the professional wrestling world as of late and the TNA newcomer is only 20 years old! Slater recently got the opportunity to fight for the X-Division title at Rebellion where he, Moose, El Hijo del Vikingo, KC Navarro, Matt Cardona, and Sidney Akeem competed in an Ultimate X match.
The finish was…convoluted. Slater managed to take the title off the X sign and as he was jumping down onto the mat, Moose speared him and grabbed the belt. So Moose somehow retained the X-Division title, even though Slater fell down onto the mat with the belt.
Nevertheless, it was clear that TNA was building to a Moose vs. Leon Slater match-up and Slammiversary is a good place to let these two tear the house down. Moose has successfully defended his title 18 times, beating Jeff Hardy, Lexis King, Ace Austin, KUSHIDA, and Laredo Kid. The 40-year-old has managed to keep the belt for more than 155 days. Could we see a title change on July 20th?
What’s interesting is that Slater has a chance to make history at Slammiversary. Chris Sabin, Trevor Lee, and Amazing Red all tie for the youngest X-Division Champion as they won it at the age of 21. That means if Slater wins then he’ll become the youngest X-Division Champion in the company’s history. In terms of the general roster, that honor goes to Rosita (current WWE star Zelina Vega), who won the Knockouts Tag Team titles with Rosita at the age of 20.
Thus far, the X-Division title match is the only bout confirmed on the card. However, TNA still has a month to go so they have plenty of time to flesh out their biggest show of the summer. What match do you think will be made next?
