Alex Hammerstone is done with TNA.
The release bug is going around and this time it’s Alex Hammerstone, though in this case, it seems that the former TNA star opted to leave instead of the company not re-signing him. Hammerstone confirmed his departure from the promotion on social media:
I wrestled my last match for TNA at the February tapings and am no longer under contract with the company. Grateful for the opportunities that came my way and excited for what’s next.
The former TNA star made his official debut back in January 2024 and immediately went into a feud with former Impact World Champion Josh Alexander.
These two had excellent chemistry and produced a number of great matches in early 2024. However, Hammerstone never particularly reached the highs of his early TNA run.
He slid down the card and competed for the X-Division championship at Emergence. His stock went up a bit when he was the surprise opponent for former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi on the September 10th episode of NXT.
The following week, Hammerstone beat Tony D’Angelo via countout. Unfortunately, Hammerstone and D’Angelo never revisited their rivalry since the former was injured at Turning Point last year.
Hammerstone had a relatively quiet 2024 despite his name being hot coming into TNA in 2024. The former Major League Wrestling star showcased why many deemed him as a future WWE main eventer on several occasions during his run, but a world title never seemed to be in Hammerstone’s future.
There’s no telling where he’ll end up next. It’s possible that Hammerstone will end up in NXT as he’s a talented name that deserves a shot in WWE. However, there’s no word on how officials feel about the former MLW World Heavyweight Champion. It is quite possible that he’ll go back to MLW. Of course, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and AEW are also in the mix.
We’ll see what the future holds for Alex Hammerstone. It’s not clear if TNA opted to not re-sign him or if Hammerstone decided that it was best to walk away. Either way, Hammerstone will make a solid addition to whatever roster he joins next.
