The Motor City Machine Guns are the new Impact World Tag Team Champions!
The North originally won the prestigious belts back in July 2019 at Bash at the Brewery and continued to dominate the division by beating teams such as LAX, Rich Swann and Willie Mack, RVD and Rhino, The Rascalz, TJP and Fallah Bahh, The Deaners, and most recently, Ken Shamrock and Sami Callihan.
However, the former TNA World Tag Team Champions managed to finally knock Ethan Page and Josh Alexander off the top of the mountain, though the feat wasn’t an easy one. During the early portion of the bout, Shelley and Sabin had control of the match-up thanks to chain wrestling and rapid fire strikes; however, Alexander managed to regain control of the bout by hurting both Sabin and Shelley.
The North isolated Shelley from his partner, but Alexander missed a moonsault, which gave the returning star a chance to tag Sabin. Once he did, Sabin came in and cleaned house with quick fire moves such as a missile dropkick and tornado DDT.
Following a near double submission, the match-up broke down between both teams trading big moves. The North came close to retaining the belts after a double team wheelbarrow cutter on Sabin; however, Shelley broke up the pin. As The North were going for their Burning Hammer/Spinebuster finisher, Sabin managed to counter with a roll-up pin that got the three count within fifteen minutes. Shelley was able to hold off Alexander as the pin was being counted.
This effectively ended The North’s reign as champions at 380 days, which became the longest championship reign in company history this past weekend. MCMG are now two time world tag team champions.
