As WWE Profits Dip It Sounds Like Some Major Budget Cutbacks Are On The Way

WWE is doing good business right now but things could always be better. Well, as the company looks to catch up to their profit margin from last year (it's never good for share prices if an entity like WWE makes less from one year to the next), it's been revealed that they're looking to make some major cutbacks.

You might have already noticed that WWE hasn't been using anywhere near as much pyro recently and that's one of many cost-cutting measures which are being implemented to drive up profits. Shows like Talking Smack, Legends with JBL, and the Edge and Christian Show have already been cancelled on the WWE Network and that's going to save a huge amount of money.

For more on what's happening, here's what Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer has to say about where things stand for WWE right now.

"So last year’s profits were about $30 million. And this year we’re about halfway through and — I don’t have the exact numbers in front of me – but it’s like five or six million, which means there’s a lot of catching up to do. They’re not in any financial trouble but the Network subscriber number is a genuine disappointment. The growth coming out of WrestleMania that would have been expected wasn’t there.

"The one thing that we have learned is that the two pay-per-views a month, that has not helped. The Network number is not growing the way they expected it to so that’s been a bad situation. But I don’t think they want to drop one of the pay-per-views because I think that would hurt ratings a little bit."

It's possible that we could be about to see more talent cut from the main roster as it's been a while since WWE ditched a lot of talent and there are a lot of names barely used on television since the brand split who probably wouldn't be missed. This news also means that the long rumoured UK show revolving around the WWE United Kingdom Championship has probably been scrapped as it would be so pricey.

We'll just have to wait and see but it's going to be very interesting keeping an eye on what else changes over the coming weeks and months.
