When Roman Reigns missed Day 1 after testing positive for COVID-19, WWE's Road to WrestleMania plans were thrown into disarray. Brock Lesnar ended up defeating Big E for the WWE Championship, and while that hotshot booking made for good headlines, the company is now trying to figure out how to get back on track say Lesnar vs. Reigns happens at the Show of Shows.
According to Dave Meltzer on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, the original plan for WrestleMania was for Lesnar to defend the Universal Championship against Reigns.
Sources tell him that they are looking to get back to a place where Lesnar is the one defending against Reigns, likely meaning Seth Rollins will win the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble when he faces the Head of the Table. We'd bet on Lesnar retaining against Bobby Lashley too.
Rollins was supposed to win the WWE Championship at Day 1 in that Fatal 4-Way match, so it seems this will be how WWE gets things back on track. We'd bet that after Lesnar started bullying Paul Heyman on SmackDown this past Friday was the start of a heel turn with a babyface Reigns then challenging The Beast at the Showcase of the Immortals.
Time will tell, of course, but this storyline remains one of WWE's most intriguing at the moment.
