It's been a while since The Judgement Day's Dominik Mysterio turned on his father, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, but the current Intercontinental Champion takes a shot at his family in interviews whenever the opportunity presents itself.
He's obviously doing so in character, but seems to be living the gimmick as this fan favourite heel. Talking to the Intoxicados Podcast, Mysterio revealed that he was paid $5000 for his role in his father's feuds with Eddie Guerrero and CM Punk.
However, he also accused his mom and dad of ripping him off!
"I got paid, I'll tell you exactly how much I got paid. I got paid, as a kid, five grand. That was just for one of the events," Mysterio explained. "And I remember my parents told me, because normally they wouldn't tell me, they would just tell me they put it to the side. They said, 'You got paid five grand.'"
"'Cool, let's go to Toys R Us.' I go to Toys R Us. I get myself a bike. I've always been into Universal Monsters, so they had these Frankenstein heads. 'Yeah, let me get a couple of those.' It totaled out to 400 bucks, maybe 300, if that," he added. "As soon as we got home, I'm like, 'Can we go to Target?' My mom goes, 'That's it. That's all your money.'"
Since making his WWE debut in a match against Seth Rollins, "Dirty Dom" has become a huge part of RAW each week and received a babyface reaction when he won the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania.
He's also been paired up with Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan, two of WWE's top female stars, and if last night's RAW was any indication, Roxanne Perez could be next.
In a separate interview with Joe Varsallone, Mysterio shared his take on why today's WWE is superior to the beloved Attitude Era:
"Honestly, it’s such a good time to be in wrestling right now because I might catch a lot of heat for this, but I’m used to the heat. A lot of people would say the Attitude Era is the best era in wrestling, or the most money-driven era in wrestling, but I think this current era we are in has it beat by long…miles because we’re doing some of the best work that we have ever done."
"Whether it’s storylines, whether it’s in-ring wrestling, merchandise that we’re producing—everything is top-level from WWE right now."
"And not only that, but the revenue and money coming in; you said four nights in Tampa? You have Saturday Night’s Main Event, NXT Battleground on Sunday, Raw on Monday, NXT again on Tuesday. That wouldn’t have happened back then, especially in one place. Now the fact that we can do that—all four shows in one place—that’s truly amazing."
