We're still not 100% sure what the deal is with Drew McIntyre's WWE contract, though more details have now been revealed about his eventual return.
The former WWE Champion hasn't been on television since WrestleMania, and there have been conflicting reports about an injury and even McIntyre's eventual plan to leave the company. It's said he's unhappy with the creative direction his character is being taken in, while money may also be an issue.
What we do know is there's no way he'll be making a surprise appearance for AEW when the company holds All In at London's Wembley Stadium this August!
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shared new insights into what's holding up the Scottish Superstar's in-ring return.
"At this point, McIntyre's return is basically more a creative issue regarding what they want, what he wants, and when they agree to it," he explains. Meltzer would go on to say, "McIntyre, to the best of our knowledge, has not asked to leave, but they have not agreed to a new deal."
Apparently, there have even been pitches to turn him heel, though it's said McIntyre is likely to push back on the idea as he likes to be hands-on with his creative and doesn't want to make any drastic changes to his character unless it makes sense. Recently, McIntyre was moved to RAW, opening the door to his character receiving a fresh start on Monday nights.
Something tells us WWE will probably find a way to make this right and give McIntyre what he wants, whether it's money or creative plans he can get on board with. Simply put, the former WWE Champion is too big of a star to lose, especially to a rival company such as AEW that's once again started regaining its momentum lately.
Stay tuned for updates.
