When Fandango arrived on WWE's main roster in 2013, he defeated Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 29 and became a sensation among fans at the always-rowdy RAW after WrestleMania.
As his popularity grew and his catchy theme tune became increasingly hot, WWE formulated plans for Fandango to win the Intercontinental Championship. Unfortunately, those were derailed and it wasn't long until he started slipping down the card and found himself viewed as something of a flash in the pan.
While Fandango would go on to have some success as a member of the Fashion Police, he never quite managed to regain his footing as a singles star.
Talking to K100 (h/t WrestlingInc.com), the former WWE Superstar explained where it all went wrong for him when it came to that aborted title reign.
"They were getting ready to put the [Intercontinental] title on me in a triple threat match at one of the pay-per-views post-WrestleMania," Fandango reveals. "I got a concussion wrestling Great Khali. I didn't tell the office about it, and I got a lot of heat for it."
Facing Zack Ryder the next night on SmackDown, it was when he arrived backstage that Fandango inadvertently let slip what he was dealing with.
"Sometimes when you get knocked out, you go back to where you actually got knocked out. Your wires get all f***ed up. So, I stooged myself off and they're like, 'Oh, you worked Khali last [night] on the show.' And I'm like, 'Well, that's when I got knocked out.' And they're like, 'Well, you didn't tell us.'"
"This is when they started implementing the protocols for concussions, which makes sense." Fandango added that he was a "different cat" in 2013 and, with the benefit of hindsight, admits he now understands WWE's frustrations that he failed to report what happened.
