Last year, rumours started swirling about WWE and Drew McIntyre potentially parting ways. We heard repeatedly that neither side could agree on cash or creative, but since then, we've seen "DM Hunk" pushed as a top Superstar in the company.
He may have fallen short of defeating Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship on a few different occasions, but all signs currently point to the Scottish Warrior getting another title shot at this April's WrestleMania.
Earlier this week, WWE started advertising McIntyre for an upcoming European tour which takes place a month after his current contract is expected to end.
According to PWInsider Elite, WWE is working under the idea that the former WWE Champion will re-sign with them. It's said both sides now expect a new deal to be finalised soon and, while nothing has been signed yet, it seems unlikely talks will break down at this stage.
There's no way WWE will put the title on McIntyre at the Show of Shows if he isn't under contract and the stage has already been set for him to feud with CM Punk when he returns from his triceps injury.
Whatever happens, McIntyre can't lose. He's become one of WWE's top heels in recent months, making him a hot commodity there and a must-have for other promotions (AEW, for example) that might be hoping to snap him up. WWE is, however, the place to be right now.
"I mean, I keep reading the internet myself," McIntyre said last year of the reports surrounding his WWE future. "I just saw something earlier. The internet keeps talking about my future, I guess. But my focus is on the here and now like I don’t look to the future, I don’t look to the past, I look to the present."
"And my job right now is just making sure we give everybody in Hyderabad the best show possible and I’ll continue to give the best performance I can give at every show and I can see I don’t plan to be anywhere else. That’s as much as I can give."
He'd later add, "It was cool getting a break. A lot of rumors and headlines on the internet when I was out. Probably 50 different things. It was amazing all of the stories about me out there. When you’re not on TV, people talk, and there might have been some smoke with some fire with a few of them. But it was nice people were talking about me when I wasn’t there."
Stay tuned for updates.
