It's been nearly a month since we last saw Randy Orton on RAW, with his last match taking place on the June 21 episode of RAW. During that show, The Viper lost to John Morrison in a Money in the Bank qualifying match after Matt Riddle inadvertently caused a distraction at ringside.
The plan was for Orton to compete in a second chance bout, but when he was M.I.A. from RAW, Riddle took his place and ended up going on to wrestle in the ladder match (which Big E would ultimately win). Clearly, WWE had something planned for these two heading into the PPV, while there have been rumours for a while now that they were set to have a big match at SummerSlam.
Well, following last night's RAW, things are a little clearer. Riddle was attacked by RAW Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Omos after the latter destroyed the scooter Matt had bought for Randy.
Now, Orton is being advertised for the August 2 episode of WWE's flagship show with the Allstate Arena advertising Orton, Riddle, and Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley, AJ Styles, and Omos in a six-man tag team dark match. Needless to say, it makes perfect sense for the former WWE Champion to return next week to save Riddle and set up a title match at SummerSlam next month.
Styles even looked up to the entrance to see if Orton would return, so it's clear this is what the company is building to. That's going to be a lot of fun as we've definitely missed seeing RkBro each week!
Keep checking back here for updates.
