Here's Why John Cena Lost Clean To Bray Wyatt Again On This Week's SMACKDOWN LIVE
Bray Wyatt pinned John Cena clean at Elimination Chamber and then again on SmackDown Live, a move which is pretty much unprecedented. Why did it happen? The answer will definitely surprise you...
John Cena remains a very divisive figure among WWE fans, though that's begun to change in recent years (and not just because everyone hates Roman Reigns). After winning the United States Championship, the leader of the Cenation started putting over younger talent in a big way, and his losses to AJ Styles last year played a huge role in helping to make him a huge star who carried SmackDown Live over the winter.
Despite all of that, it was still surprising to see Cena get pinned clean by Bray Wyatt both at Elimination Chamber and then again during a Triple Threat match on Tuesday. Going into WrestleMania, Wyatt now looks extremely strong, but the reason this happened may still surprise you. Talking on his podcast the Sean Waltman’s AfterBuzz TV show, X-Pac revealed that it was Cena himself who wanted things to play out like this. His source? AJ Styles.
"[AJ Styles] came up and he went, I was watching your show and he goes, ‘I just wanted to tell you what you said about John Cena being the man and the best [wrestler around]: you’re a hundred percent correct.’ He goes, anyone that doesn’t agree with you, it’s because they don’t really know John Cena and have never been in the ring with him. I’m not sure what the finish was supposed to be for the match [on Smackdown]. But I know this for a fact, that John Cena insisted on putting Bray Wyatt over again last night, insisted on it. That’s not just a rumor."
That's pretty damn awesome to hear, and something which further emphasises just how far Cena has come as he takes on the role of a veteran of sorts who helps to make new stars by losing. Of course, after winning his sixteenth world title and tying Ric Flair's legendary record, it's understandable that he'd be willing to take some losses ahead of WrestleMania and his time off after that event.
