Vince McMahon is no longer facing criminal charges for allegedly sexually abusing and trafficking former WWE employee Janel Grant. However, the civil case rolls on, and she's on the cusp of having her day in court.
The billionaire appears unwilling to settle and maintains his innocence, so if this lawsuit does reach the courtroom, McMahon is going to come under a level of scrutiny he's not used to. However, the former WWE Chairman has never been one to back down, even after a seemingly forced retirement and his eventual departure from WWE when the company was sold to Endeavor.
McMahon and WWE are also pushing for the matter to be settled behind closed doors, and when all is said and done, the former WWE Chairman could emerge from this whole thing with his name cleared and a desire to get back into the wrestling business.
Former WWE commentator and backstage interviewer Jonathan Coachman has shared a wild rumour today, claiming that McMahon hopes to buy WWE back from TKO Group Holdings, the parent company in control of WWE and UFC.
"I’ve been quoted a lot from this show the last week, everywhere, because I have conversations," he started. "People trust me. People call me. I talk to them because I don’t treat this like the end-all be-all. And the one thing that I’ve yet to be wrong about — anything. And so now all of a sudden I’m getting on all these websites because I have educated views and I also have people that are tipping me off."
"Now, do I know 100% he’s going to buy [WWE]? I know that he wants to," Coachman concluded.
For what it's worth, Masked J of PWNexus has disputed these claims, writing on X, "I was given word that TKO is not interested in selling off WWE. And the source I spoke with chuckled at the thought of Vince purchasing it back. It’s very possible he may feel like he wants it back, but seems very unlikely at this point since WWE is not for sale."
While we don't doubt that Coachman has plenty of sources in the world of professional wrestling, this doesn't sound remotely realistic, and while TKO could turn a quick profit with a sale back to McMahon, both parties would lose a tremendous amount of money.
There's been a lot of chatter about McMahon doing something in the entertainment sphere, so it's doubtful that we've seen the last of him. As a reminder, he sold WWE for $9.3 billion to Endeavor Group Holdings after buying it from his father for around $1 million.
