Kevin Owens is pissed.
The former Universal Champion got a second opportunity to take away the Undisputed WWE Championship and Owens did everything in his power to secure the victory. The Smackdown star even tried to use a steel chair to get the better of Cody Rhodes.
But the second generation star is a crafty wrestler and outsmarted Owens to get the three count. Unfortunately for Cody, Kevin is ruthless and blindsided him after the match was done. The 40-year-old ended his beatdown by bringing back a banned move that he used during his time on the independent scene - a package piledriver. This is the first time Kevin has used that maneuver in a WWE ring.
Owens grabbed the Undisputed title for himself and was about to leave with it until Triple H stopped the WWE star. Owens and Triple H got into a bit of an altercation as the COO is clearly tired of Kevin’s antics.
Could they be building to a Triple H vs. Kevin Owens match? Doubtful, though given the angle, it wouldn’t be a surprise if fans ran wild with speculation. Nevertheless, Owens and Cody are far from done as this was a stretcher job that resulted in Kevin stealing the Undisputed WWE title.
There’s no word on when Cody and Kevin could have their rematch. Since this was a stretcher job, he'll likely be out for weeks to sell the injury. However, with The Royal Rumble less than a month away, it’s likely that these two will face one another in a stipulation match. Then again, WWE is building up their Netflix RAW show as something huge, so it’s quite possible that their rematch will take place on that show as well.
It should be interesting to see how Triple H gets involved any further with Kevin Owens following their brief confrontation. I don’t know if Triple H is able to take any sort of bumps, but Kevin Owens will get nuclear heat if creative does a beat down angle on Triple H.
As always, we’ll keep you updated when more information is announced. Smackdown just got a lot more interesting this upcoming Friday.
