Kurt Angle's final run in WWE kicked off at
TLC in 2017 and ended with an underwhelming match against Baron Corbin at
WrestleMania. Now, the WWE Hall of Famer has shared his thoughts on why his in-ring style was so different to what we've become used to seeing from him.
"You understand what [Vince McMahon] did? He brought me back and had me settled in without doing anything physical," Angle said, referring to being made RAW General Manager. "He continued to drug test me to make sure I was staying clean. Eventually he had me wrestle, but by then my body was arthritic."
"If you're just sitting around for 9-12 months and they call you to wrestle, it's not gonna be the same Kurt Angle that everybody knows. When I finally started wrestling, it was too late for me. I don't blame Vince for that because I know what he was trying to do and making sure I was okay… But for me, it was like 'Damn!' I could have had a championship run and wrestled Rollins, A.J. Styles and Roman Reigns."
That really is heartbreaking to hear because it would have been amazing to see Angle get a proper run.
Instead, his matches disappointed and his career ended with a whimper rather than a bang. It's easy to see why Vince McMahon was cautious about how he used the Olympic Gold Medallist given his past and here's hoping WWE now finds a way of keeping him around as an on-screen character.
What do you guys think?
