Last week, we learned that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was planning to meet with NXT Superstar Adam Cold during SmackDown to discuss his contract (which expires after SummerSlam).
Now, in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has revealed more details about what happened. Apparently, the writing team was told to come up with ideas for Cole on the main roster, and the meeting between McMahon and Cold did go well. As of right now, he hasn't decided what to do and could still be done with WWE following the PPV later this month.
Cole is close to Triple H and Shawn Michaels, and WWE seems keen to keep him. Whether he wants to risk signing a lengthy deal given how poorly NXT Superstars are usually used on the main roster (especially given his size) remains to be seen, but AEW would arguably be a wiser choice.
Talking of AEW, we also have an update on WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair's plans.
Meltzer notes that "while nothing has been announced, the word going around is that it seems to be a lock Ric Flair will be headed here when he is legally able." So, yes, the Nature Boy appears to be on his way to AEW. Whether they'll allow him to wrestle remains to be seen, but he'll now join future son-in-law Andrade El Idolo as part of that company (will Charlotte follow?).
Needless to say, we'll keep you updated on all this as we learn more!
