More Details Have Emerged About Why WWE Scrapped Plans For Dean Ambrose Vs. Nia Jax

Earlier this year, it appeared as if WWE was going to explore intergender wrestling with a match pitting Dean Ambrose against Nia Jax. Now, more details have emerged about why that didn't end up happening...

During his recent appearance on Talk Is Jericho, Jon Moxley talked about why he was excited to work with Nia Jax when WWE started teasing a match between the two of them during the Royal Rumble PPV and then the next night on RAW. However, given the timing of that (he had told WWE he was planning on leaving), he expected it to ultimately serve as a burial.

Now the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has weighed in on the matter and Dave Meltzer claims that this wasn't meant to be a burial; instead, they planned it as an "experiment."

With the Mixed Match Challenge and Ronda Rousey's in-ring debut, the company wanted to start testing the waters for intergender wrestling and figured Jax was a good starting point given her size and how formidable she is. However, they got cold feet when they started worrying that it would look like a burial and make Ambrose a more sympathetic character as he left the company.

That would have turned fans against WWE (similar to what happened with CM Punk) so it's easy to see where they were coming from. Whether things will change when Jax returns remains to be seen but it would certainly be interesting seeing her get her hands on the 24/7 Championship...
