The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have lost the World Tag Team Championship titles to The Judgment Day's Finn Balor and JD McDonagh on the June 30, 2025 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw.
How did this go down tonight, what led to this, and what could be on the horizon? Let's break it all down!
How We Got Here:
Previously, The Judgment Day have held these titles numerous times. At first, Finn Balor and Damian Priest reigned from Payback on September 2, 2023 through Fastlane on October 7, 2023, only to regain the belts back from Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso on October 16, 2023. They held them until losing to Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth) at WrestleMania XL on April 6, 2024, but again, won the titles back on the June 24, 2024 episode of Raw—this time with JD McDonagh alongside Balor instead of Priest.
That reign lasted until December 16, 2024 when The War Raiders (Erik and Ivar) won them on Raw, before losing them to The New Day at WrestleMania 41, who now have their 72 day run put to an end.
While The Judgment Day have often talked about getting these belts back, nothing much was set up to lead to this. Last week, The New Day were simply informed they would be defending the titles tonight and that was that—which may speak volumes in and of itself that this could have been a decision made by WWE Creative that wasn't long in the works.
Match Details:
There weren't many things going on in this match as far as storyline elements or twists and turns. This was essentially a straight-up match that was just an enjoyable watch. The finish came about when McDonagh hit a moonsault, followed by Balor landing Coup de Grace on Woods for the pinfall.
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
It's interesting that WWE felt the need to just put these belts back on The Judgment Day. Is that punishment for The New Day, who haven't been given much to work with in 2025 but were somehow expected to make chicken salad out of...you know? Or is it more so that the WWE Creative team just really loves The Judgment Day and can't help but to go back to that well all the time? To transition from a heel team to another heel team is rare, so it has to be more one of those scenarios and not that they have some babyface team in mind that had to feud specifically with Balor and McDonagh and couldn't have just won the belts from Woods and Kofi.
I still think The Lucha Bros are going to be fighting for these belts soon enough and could be the next champions in mind, even though they're on opposite rosters at the moment.
