What is going on with Omos?
The good news? The 7’3 giant has just signed a multi-year deal with WWE. That means Omos is going to remain with the company for years to come. The WWE superstar himself confirmed the news during his interview with Gaming Industry News.
“Things are going very well. Can’t complain. I’m really excited about what is to come. I’ve been training really hard and working on some new things and I think it’s going to be a really fun ride ahead, especially because I just signed a renewal with WWE and will be there for years to come!”
If WWE wants to bench Omos for the next several years then they’ll be able to do so! The continued benching of Omos is so strange. Granted, Omos is NOT the only star that barely gets any television time, but Omos has not been seen on WWE television since April 2024. Even names like Natalya or Santos Escobar have shown up here and there.
Omos was getting some nice buzz during his time in Pro Wrestling NOAH back in January. To recall, Omos did an excursion to the Japanese company and won the GHC Tag Team Titles with Jack Morris. It was a smart way of allowing Omos to work more matches and learn outside of the performance center. However, his run was cut short as Omos abruptly vacated the belts 24 days into his title run.
The big man himself stated that he was returning back to WWE, with the assumption that Omos would make his comeback during the Royal Rumble match. That never happened. There's a clue on when Omos could possibly make a return. The former WWE Tag Team Champion is in the spotlight now because he’s making his rounds during various interviews.
The 33-year-old did address his absence during his interview with Chris Van Vliet and he’s in the dark like everyone else.
“[I’m] staying ready, man. Staying ready. Taking care of my body. Staying ready for when they’re ready for me...I don’t know. I’m just waiting, patiently waiting...I’m kind of like a special attraction, so whenever that time comes, I’m ready.”
That brief excursion to Japan actually did wonders for the WWE star as sitting on the bench was taking a toll on him mentally.
“You watch MMA, right? I was watching an interview with Demetrious Johnson and Tom Aspinall. And he was talking about just waiting for Jon Jones, and how sometimes that can take a toll on your mental. And I kind of relate to that because when you’re just waiting, and you just got to stay prepared, sometimes it kind of puts you in this weird space where you just feel like you’re just training, you don’t know for what.
So me going to Japan, I needed to go to Japan and just experience a new culture, a new wrestling style, a new people. And I hadn’t really been on my own since I came to this country, and it was good for us just to get away. And then get away, wrestle. I had a blast in Japan, and then come back and I just feel like a new person.”
All we can do is wait and see what happens to Omos next.
