Paige Makes Her WWE Return At WrestleMania 42 In Women's Tag Team Title Match - And Wins Championship Gold!

With WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella unable to compete at WrestleMania 42, Paige finally returned to the company at the Show of Shows, stepping into a WWE ring for the first time in 8 years.

Earlier this week, rumours swirled that Paige had signed a new WWE deal ahead of a planned return at WrestleMania 42.

It was widely reported that she would replace Nikki Bella, who suffered an ankle injury on SmackDown a few weeks ago, leaving her status for the Show of Shows uncertain.

With Nikki still unable to team with her twin sister, Brie, on the Grandest Stage of Them All, the WWE Hall of Famer announced to the Las Vegas crowd that she'd turned to an old friend to take her place.

Paige's music then hit, leading to one of the loudest WrestleMania pops since the Hardy Boyz returned to WWE at WrestleMania 33. Teaming with Brie, it quickly became clear that the British professional wrestler hadn't missed a step, and it was soon down to her and Charlotte Flair.

The Queen and Alexa Bliss looked like they had the advantage, but when Nikki pulled Flair out of the ring and brutalised her with a crutch, Paige got the knees up and countered Twisted Bliss, hitting the Paige Turner for the 1-2-3.

With that, she and Brie won the Women's Tag Team Championships!

It was a strange ending to the match in some ways, but also an emotional one. Clearly holding back tears, Paige had made her WWE comeback by winning championship gold, mirroring her Divas title win on the RAW after WrestleMania 30.

"If I do wrestle again, I’m gonna take this year to step outside of it," Paige said shortly after her AEW departure last year. "I will be going to Natty’s [Natalya Neidhart’s] training school getting some reps under me so then when I do come back, I’m back to being how I wrestled before because I felt like I wasn’t giving it my entire all these past couple of years."

"I know that I was frustrated with myself. I know I could be better than that. So I’m gonna go back and, like, relearn my life again."

"But if there’s something special on the horizon, I would do it, just depending on a lot of things," she added. "I love that place. It’s where I grew up. They raised me. They supported me through everything when I should have got fired. They are amazing. So I always have wonderful things to say about them."

"Now that I’m a free agent, I feel comfortable to show my love for everyone, you know," Paige continued. "I love AEW. I love WWE. I just had the best wrestling career that I could ask for. But I know that there’s still stuff left in the tank, so we’ll see where that ends up."
