Tonight on WWE Monday Night Raw, two matches were made official for the next upcoming premium live event, WWE Backlash, set to go down Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
First up, Becky Lynch admitted that she attacked Bayley prior to WrestleMania to get back at her for the years that they've been in opposition to one another, dating back to 2019. As "the friend of my enemy is my enemy", that meant Lyra Valkyria was guilty by association, and that's why she attacked her. Valkyria, wanting some revenge over this and being upset that she trusted The Man despite warnings from others in the locker room, challenged Lynch to a match. As she knew Lynch wouldn't accept unless the belt was on the line, she's willing to make it for the Women's Intercontinental Championship at Backlash.
Someone else looking to get some payback is Pat McAfee, who had stood up for Michael Cole when Gunther attacked the commentary team last week. McAfee was looking for a fight and asked Nick Aldis (filling in for Raw General Manager Adam Pearce) to lift the suspension Gunther has so he could get his hands on him. Aldis, in an attempt to preserve some safety, booked the two of them for a sanctioned match at Backlash instead, which McAfee accepted. Gunther, of course, was not there to accept the challenge, so technically, there's a chance this gets tweaked, but it's highly unlikely it won't just be considered official.
Previously, the main event had been announced on Friday Night SmackDown, as we'll see John Cena defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton in what is being billed as "one last time" between the two.
Those are the only confirmed matches, essentially, though a few more have been at least hinted at.
Nia Jax went after Tiffany Stratton on SmackDown, so it's within reason she'll challenge for the WWE Women's Championship. Logan Paul is coming after Jey Uso and the World Heavyweight Championship, so that's another match that could very well be made official in the coming week. Also, don't be surprised if Seth Rollins vs. Sami Zayn is added to the card after their issues with each other this week.
As far as next week's episode of Raw goes, the only things official at the moment are Penta vs. JD McDonagh and Rusev vs. Otis. Penta interfered in McDonagh's tag team match tonight, costing The Judgment Day a potential victory over The War Raiders, while Rusev is on a mission to "fix" the broken members of the roster who, in his mind, need to be redeemed.
