As most of us figured she would, Rhea Ripley defeated Asuka to win the Raw Women's Championship last night during day 2 of WrestleMania, making history on a couple of different levels in the process.
The Empress of Tomorrow gave The Nightmare everything she had, laying in plenty of stiff kicks and locking in excruciating submission holds which almost gained her the tap-out victory. However, Ripley simply proved to be too powerful and resilient, ultimately managing to hit the Riptide to score the 3-count win and capture the title.
With this massive victory, Ripley not only becomes the first Australian Superstar to hold a major title in WWE, but the first to hold the NXT, NXT UK and Raw Women's Championships.
We expect (or hope, anyway) Rhea holds on to the title for a decent run, but there's speculation that Charlotte Flair will be setting her sights on the gold as soon as she's cleared to return to action. In the meantime, there's a good chance Ripley will run through a few "smaller" opponents to establish her dominance, starting tonight on Raw.
