Universal Champion Roman Reigns recently made headlines for saying he didn't think CM Punk was ever as good or over as John Cena and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Well, the Head of the Table isn't backing down from sharing his brutally honest thoughts on the Best in the World, something that was evident from a recent interview with Complex.
Asked about a potential match with Punk (we're not sure how that would happen), Reigns simply doesn't believe the former WWE Superstar is on his level.
"[On] a personal level, it doesn’t do anything for me. That’s not going to elevate me at all," Reigns stated. "He’s older now. I haven’t really seen a full match. I’ve seen a clip or two. And to me, a step or two has been lost. Then also he got his a** whooped in the UFC."
"I don’t think anybody really believes someone 200 pounds soaking wet with no explosive bone in their body could ever really do anything to me. I'm 6'3", 265 pounds, a legitimate athlete who can throw some weight around and has been on the gridiron at the highest level."
Ouch. There's a chance these comments were made at least somewhat in character, but they're bound to rile some of Punk's fans up. Honestly, that's probably what Reigns is hoping for - he is WWE's top heel, after all - but what he had to say about the rest of the AEW roster should definitely cause debate.
"So, I mean, when it comes down to it, I’ll throw him and pretty much the rest of that [AEW] roster out the club no problem," Reigns claimed. "They’re just little brothers, you know?"
No one can blame the Big Dog for standing up for the company he works for, but comments like these are only going to add to the endless online arguments between hardcore WWE and AEW fans. Reigns is WWE's biggest star right now, and his presence in AEW would be a game-changer; however, as a born and bred WWE talent, we don't see him ever jumping ship!
