Monday night's episode of RAW kicked off with a sombre Seth Rollins, wearing a knee brace, making his way to the ring to address his WrestleMania status after suffering a knee injury during his match with Jinder Mahal last week.
The World Heavyweight Champion confirmed that an MRI showed he has a Grade 2 MCL tear and a partially torn medial meniscus in his left knee. If surgery is required, that means he'd be sidelined for at least 3 - 4 months, causing Rollins to miss April's WrestleMania 40.
However, before he could confirm or debunk claims he was going to vacate the title, Intercontinental Champion Gunther made his way to the ring alongside Imperium.
It was then that Rollins revealed he "doesn't give a damn what the doctors tell [him]," and he will defend his title at the Showcase of Immortals and walk out with it still in hand. While he clearly needs to rest up, it seems the injury isn't as serious as initially suspected.
As for Gunther, he let Rollins know he plans to win the Royal Rumble on Saturday and will take advantage of the World Heavyweight Champion's bad knee and back to take his title from him on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Had Rollins been injured, it would have derailed WWE's plans for him to defend the title against CM Punk at WrestleMania. Last December, he revealed some of the personal issues he has with the Second City Saint.
"A lot of it is personal. A lot of it is stuff I don’t really want to get into. For the most part, I just think he’s been really selfish when it comes to his perspective on the industry."
"For a guy who, when I met him, made it seem like he was all about giving back to the business, he really turned into a pretty selfish guy and wanting to take more from the industry. Look, he said some really bad things about me. Talked down about me for years, and the company, for years. I’m talking some really bad stuff. Called me a bootlicker and crap like that.
"The way I felt like he’s only looking out for himself, and then the way he talked about me and my friends and the people who are here putting the hard work in at WWE, trying to make this thing as good as we possibly can because we love the industry, truly love it, not just what it can do for us, we actually love it and want to give back to it and make it the best it could possibly be."
"I also felt like he’s a fraud in that sense, or at least turned into one at some point in the last decade. That’s the long of it. It’s a deep-rooted, I wouldn’t call it hatred, but there’s animosity there."
