We recently learned that WWE has released R-Truth, a beloved veteran who recently squared off with Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena at Saturday Night's Main Event.
That capped off a great run, which, in recent years, has seen the former 24/7 Champion "join" The Judgement Day and repeatedly mistake Tommaso Ciampa for Triple H
Fans chanted for Truth during both RAW and NXT, and in an interview with Pat McAfee, Sheamus shared his take on his fellow veteran's shock dismissal.
"From our perspective, what we do, entertainment, it’s about entertaining the fans and people," he shared. "[To] get to know who that person is and they get to fall in love with the character and the personality."
"For Truth, for example, he’s one of the most beloved because he’s one of the most entertaining," Sheamus continued. "I had my first dark match against him when I came up, and R-Truth had just come back. From then on, we bonded. It’s that fella walking in the dressing room, and it’s just a laugh. He’s got a contagious laugh that would just light up the room."
Despite R-Truth and Carlito's unexpected releases (WWE reportedly decided against renewing their contracts), the Celtic Warrior seems resolute in his belief that we'll see them again. "It’s not the end. It’s a bit of, sometimes it’s a bit of a break, there’s no way Truth is not going to come back at some stage."
It's also been reported that WWE did not want on-screen talent wearing R-Truth t-shirts during this past Monday's episode of RAW. According to @WrestleVotes, "Yeah, we’ve seen it in the past. Guys get hurt, people move on, you see one of their shirts snuck in. That happened last night with Carlito, Dominik Mysterio had a Carlito shirt on on TV."
"But supposedly they didn’t want any R-Truth shirts being worn by talent last night [on Raw]," the insider concluded, suggesting the company is looking to cut off this groundswell of support for him at the knees.
There are also rumblings that WWE President Nick Khan decided Truth should be cut while looking to cut costs. "This is one of the reasons why John Cena, apparently aware of the situation, requested to added a program with R-Truth into his farewell tour in attempt to convince the WWE higher-ups that his old friend could still be a valuable asset to the company. This attempt unfortunately failed."
