SMACKDOWN's Move To FOX Contributes To The Network Posting A $214 Million Loss

Broadcasting & Cable has revealed that FOX reported higher earning in Q2 with a revenue increase of 5%. However, it's noted that the FOX TV group suffered a loss of $214 million which is significant and shocking increase from a $14 million loss one year ago.

There were a number of reasons for this, including higher NFL costs, higher programming rights amortization at Fox Entertainment, and...SmackDown. FOX paid a huge amount for the WWE show and while it hasn't been delivering ratings as high as the premiere, its performance has been a tad disappointing. Still, this loss feels like a "spending money to make money" situation.

On the plus side, revenues were up 5% to $2.17 billion, with affiliate revenues up 18% and ad revenue up 2%.

For now, there's no way that SmackDown is moving to Fox Sports 1 or anything that drastic as ratings have proved to be steady and should rise as we continue heading down the Road to WrestleMania.
