Yesterday evening, R-Turth shocked the world when he announced that WWE had released him. It appears the company decided against renewing his contract, though it's unclear whether both parties disagreed over a new deal or WWE decided against keeping him on the roster.
With so many NXT callups and new talent like Mariah May reportedly on the way to WWE, cuts are inevitable. R-Truth's release came as a surprise, though, and those backstage are just as shocked as fans.
Truth's fellow wrestlers are said to be shocked by what's happened, with the consensus being that TKO is "ruthless" and that no one is safe. Many wrestlers are now looking to lock down new deals sooner rather than later, especially as the former 24/7 Champion has been released with just weeks left on his contract.
As it happens, so has The Judgement Day's Carlito; he's also taken to social media to announce his departure, and how his absence on RAW is dealt with tonight promises to be very interesting.
"My contract is up in 2 weeks. It will not be renewed," Carlito wrote on X. "On top of that, WWE is demanding I pay back the $ they paid me for apparently 'stealing money' from the company. I’ve had my lawyers look into it and after reviewing my footage on Netflix for the past months they suggested I pay them back the money."
He added, "All jokes aside, gracias WWE & especially the WWE universe. Los quiero mucho! PS…I’ll reappear again in another 13 [years]. Dios me los bendiga!"
Carlito made his WWE debut in 2004 on SmackDown, defeating John Cena to win the United States Championship in his first match, a highlight of his early career.
He moved to RAW in 2005, capturing the Intercontinental Championship while showcasing his "Caribbean Cool" persona. With his brother Primo, he won the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship in 2008, holding it for 280 days. His initial WWE run ended in 2010 after a tenure marked by mid-card success but no world title reigns.
Carlito eventually returned to WWE in 2021, appearing on RAW in a tag match with Jeff Hardy. He made a full-time return at Backlash 2023 in Puerto Rico, joining the Latino World Order, but WWE failed to ever really capitalise on his momentum and the incredible response he received in his home country.
He turned heel in March 2024, aligning with The Judgment Day. However, his activity has been limited, with only one televised match in 2025 when he was part of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
