There was a lot of backlash when it was announced that Kurt Angle would face Baron Corbin in his retirement match at WrestleMania 35 back in 2019, but it seems Vince McMahon wasn't particularly interested in the fans' opinions... to say the very least!
WWE actually built the feud fairly well, and if Angle had won, it probably wouldn't have been that big a deal, but Corbin pulling out the victory did not go down well with anyone - Angle included!
The Olympic Gold Medallist has previously made it clear that he wanted John Cena as his final opponent, but Vince was determined to push Corbin and vetoed the idea.
Former WWE writer Dave Schilling was rewatching WrestleMania 35 while live-Tweeting the show as it went on, and revealed that McMahon had a very blunt response to being told how fans felt about the feud during a backstage meeting.
"Oh no it’s Kurt Angle Vs Baron Corbin. When it was mentioned in a production meeting that the fans hated the idea of this match, Vince laughed so hard and said ‘f*ck em.’"
To be fair, Vince was proven right, because Corbin went on to... ehhh, well, "Bum-Ass Baron" was entertaining for a while, right?
