People are taking a lot of shots at Triple H marrying Stephanie McMahon these days.
Fresh off of WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart trashing Triple H by calling him “phony” and stating that he didn’t earn the position that he was given, Vince Russo decided to chime in and pile in on the hate that the WWE COO is currently receiving.
Now Vince Russo is quite a controversial figure.
The former WWE writer was a prominent figure during the Attitude Era days of the company as he was the head writer from 1997 to 1999. It’s pretty much been downhill since he opted to leave. Russo was also the lead writer in WCW and a good majority of TNA Wrestling.
Ever since Russo was forcefully removed from his position in 2011, the 64-year-old has been quite vocal about the wrestling business through his podcast and appearances. This situation is no different as Mr. Russo feels that Triple H shouldn’t be in such a powerful position.
“I could see him being an agent or producer.” Russo said on his Writing with Russo show. "I could see him in that role, bro. I’ll go as far as to say—even if you wanted to let him and Shawn run NXT, because that really is developmental—even then, I’m fine with that. But the spot he’s in now? If he did not marry Stephanie, no way, no how would he ever be in that spot. Absolutely not.”
But Russo didn’t stop there. He feels that Triple H isn’t qualified from a creative standpoint.
“From a creative standpoint, he is not qualified at all. And what I’m talking about is basic fundamentals—basic babyface-heel fundamentals. He is not qualified when it comes to creative.”
Russo makes an analogy that pretty much translates to Triple H not being good at his current job.
“There are great baseball players, football players, basketball players, hockey players. They don’t necessarily make great owners or great coaches. These guys were great players. But I am telling you… writing and formatting and directing a crew of creative writers has nothing to do with how many championships you won.”
Like Bret Hart, Russo feels that his marriage with Stephanie is the only reason he got such a spot.
“All we have to look at is the product. And there are so many freaking holes creatively that I question every week, man—is this guy qualified for the job if he did not marry Stephanie? I think that’s a fair question. There’s no question if he never married Stephanie, that spot should be Shane McMahon’s. Without a shadow of a doubt, that should be Shane.”
Triple H has been getting a ton of flack for his creativity lately since WrestlePalooza. First it was that ESPN article where a writer gave his show a C grade. Then it was Bret Hart. With all of these sources coming out and bashing the WWE Hall of Famer, does that mean Triple H isn’t worthy of the position he’s in?
